Answers to common questions about our services and policies
If you are not on medical aid, it is your responsibility to go to the Provincial Hospital and register/book a delivery bed. We will provide the booking card. If you opt for provincial hospital delivery, a referral will be provided at 28 weeks according to health department protocol.
You have the right to choose to deliver with Lubaleko Healing Hands at Oxford Maternity Unit, 5th Birthing Unit, or have a Home Birth. We will discuss all options with you during your antenatal visits.
In the event of further medical intervention, any further treatment will be handed over to the relevant medical practitioner at the discretion of the Midwife. We will never risk the health and safety of you and your baby just because we have planned for a normal delivery.
In the event of an emergency caesarean section, the extra costs (including surgeon, anesthetist, pediatrician and hospital costs) will be your own account if not on medical aid, or your medical aid will be billed. Please note that the patient is responsible for ambulance fees in such cases.
You will be refunded everything except your booking and antenatal visits fee if you go into premature labor or for any other unforeseen circumstances and do not deliver at the facility. However, once a service has been offered at the birth centre and you end up with an emergency caesarean section, fees already paid for delivery are non-refundable.
We accept payment arrangements before delivery. You can choose between once-off settlements or three monthly installments to cover medical aid shortfalls or private accounts. We encourage completing full payment before delivery to avoid clashes with immunization program costs.
We may need to share personal and medical information with other attending practitioners and administrative staff for treatment, statistical, epidemiology, managed healthcare and payment purposes. These parties will have access on a “need-to-know” basis, and we protect patient confidentiality at all costs, though absolute confidentiality cannot be guaranteed.
Your Medical Aid may or may not cover all the fees charged by this practice. Should there be a shortfall, you remain personally liable for payment of that shortfall. You are fully responsible for payment, and if not paid timeously, you will be liable for debt recovery & legal costs.
